La Volpe

Austin, Texas

La Volpe is a new restaurant and bar that blends Texas flair with Italian inspired cuisine. Located in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas, the 5,608 SF restaurant features a centralized 18-person bar, and first and second-floor dining areas that open to covered outdoor spaces.

Throughout the project, Tuscan villas inspired the modern approach to La Volpe. The gable form and individual punched openings on the facade are a modern take on the Italian villas, while the exterior brickwork is a nod to the color palette. The detailed metalwork is a simplified version of metalwork you might find on Italian balconies and provides a semi-transparent screen to the movement of the courtyard spaces.

The interior maintains the warmth of experiencing a home-cooked meal in Italy while providing an integrated Texas approach to the exterior spaces that join the upper and lower dining areas.

The outdoor areas use a semi-transparent roof that provides necessary shade during hot Texas summers and light for the hanging gardens suspended from the structure. Incorporating mixed seating throughout the outdoor space helps one relax as if they were enjoying time with friends on the back patio.

La Volpe, holistically, from the architecture to the dining experience is a hybrid between Texas vernacular and the Tuscan, Italian culture.
